Correction/Myths and Heroes
Message de lillou99 posté le 03-05-2017 à 20:49:03 (S | E | F)
Bonjour,
je souhaite faire corriger ,mes oraux d'anglais pour le Bac;
merci d'avance pour vos réponses

I’m going to talk about the notion ‘’Myths and Heroes’’. First let me define the notion ; A Myth is a popular belief or a tradition embodying the ideal and institutions of a society. A hero is a person admired for his or her achievements, noble qualities and great courage. This notion can be illustrated with the example of sportsmen since, nowadays, a lot of people count them among their heroes. We may wonder to what extent are sportsmen considered as heroes ? To answer this question I will present 2 documents, the first one is a recording of the speech of Queen Elisabeth during Christmas 2010. The second one is a video promoting the Rio Paralympics of 2010.

My first document is a speech of the Queen Elisabeth about the values of sport. According to her, sport can be used to teach vital social skills like respecting the rules and having team spirit. Indeed sport teaches respect of the opponent. For her the role of Sport it`s to create harmony between people and to bring them together. Moreover she considers that sport can give pride to people who represent their country and give them a sense of belonging. The Queen approves the fact that Sportsmen have a great responsibility since they have to be role models for people. They have to set the example through their respect for each other and their brotherhood. This speech perfectly illustrates the idea of myths and heroes because it shows that sportsmen are positive references as models of excellence.

Sportsmen in general are heroes for many; because of their exemplary attitude. However we should bear in mind that sportsmen are also heroes because of their bravery.

The second document that we have studied is a video entitled ``we’re the superhuman`` by channel 4, to promote the Rio Paralympics games in 2010. In that video we can see disabled athletes climbing, cycling, swimming, fencing and doing a lot of Olympic games. There is also a disabled couple, who are wearing prosthesis, tap dancing and imitating the actors of the film ```the artists``. Moreover there is a brass orchestra, composed of disabled musicians. One of the musician is saying ´´Yes I can´´. It represents the fact that, despite their disability, these sportsmen keep on training, and did not give up. The disabled who take part in Paralympics find interior strength and develop their mental faculties in compensation. That document also illustrates this notion, indeed disabled athletes overcome their difficulties through sport and are role models to inspire young people. Their bravery and perseverance make them heroes.

To conclude, both the recording and the video show us that sportsmen are heroes, because of their moral qualities. Indeed Sportsmen provide a good opportunity to think about the values of our society, since there are role models. Paralympics athletes can encourage young people to be more active, to have an ideal or a goal to achieve. Besides they can create hope for disabled people, and are a source of motivation through their hard work and their perseverance. But we should bear in mind that sportsmen don`t save lives and don`t make sacrifices to help others. They work hard to get better and some of them don`t give up when things get tough, however their performances don`t make them automatically heroes in life.
