Hello,
Could you help me please?
Thank you for your answers.

He narrated the story superbly in great details or detail... why is the answer 'detail' in the singular?
Can you explain this, please?

Hello,
The word "detail" can be used both as countable noun (c)and uncountable noun (u).It depends on the concrete content or meaning the sentence expresses,or on how the writer thinks.
In a word, the uncountable noun usage of "detail" emphasizes on the small facts or features of something, when you consider them all together.
(U)e.g.▶ This issue will be discussed in more detail in the next chapter.
(C)e.g.▶ Please supply the following details: name, age and sex.
