Bonjour,
je dois passer mon oral d'anglais dans deux jours. Voilà les textes que j'ai appris, pouvez-vous les corriger s'il vous plait ?
Merci pour votre aide.

In order to start my presentation about Myths and Heroes, I would like introduce these two notions. The world Myth derives from the ancient Greek word ‘’mythos’’ which means legend. A myth is a story that may or may not be true, about gods or heroes, where the characters embody an idea. Hero also has Greek origins and means ‘’semi-god’’, a person with superhuman abilities accomplishing extraordinary achievements. The definition has evolved and now refers to a person who is admirated for his or her courage, outstanding achievements and noble qualities. This year in class we studied several documents about myth and heroes. In order to illustrate this notion I have chosen to talk about the myth and hero representations in people spirit. And attempt to answer the question: what makes someone a hero or a myth and how can we view a heroism act? To answer this question I will present 3 documents.

First of all, when somebody talks about a hero, many people immediately suppose people with superpower, smart boots, tight-fitting body suit, cape and mask. This description corresponds to main character of a book, a film, an animation or a cartoon. Superman, for example, is a cultural icon who saves the world with his superpower. Some heroes are famous for standing up against devil like Batman, Superman, Captain America, ect ,… We called their Superheroes. This cartoon show us the vision of many people about who’s a hero : a man or a woman who fought for the planet and constantly ready to help the world. But there is a relationship between superhero and real hero.
, many heros where ordinally people, living ordinaly lives, when suddenly they found themselves in circumstances which needed them to act heroically. We read a extract in class from the autobiography of Nelson Mandela which has been written while he was in prison at Robben Island. His book was published when Nelson Mandela was the president of South Africa and is called ‘’The long way to freedom’’. Rolihlahla Mandela is considered like a hero because he is an example for everybody. After his study, Mandela became increasingly involved with the African National Congress (ANC), a multi-racial nationalist movement tying to bring about political change in South Africa. He was accused criminal and sentenced to life imprisonment. Most of Nelson Mandela autobiography was written when he was a prisoner on Robben Island. This book explain us that at first, Mandela wanted freedom just for himself. But then, he longed for freedom for black South Africains. Gradually, he come to feel a strong desire for the liberation of the white minority as well. Thus, after 27 years in jail, Mandela stepped down as ANC leader, became the first black president in South America and was awarded, with De Klark, the last president, a Nobel Peace Price. The link with the document and Nelson Mandela is that Mandela is a hero for South Africa and world as despite all difficulties he went through, he managed to reach his goal to bring peace in South Africa and stopped apartheid. He is a defender of common values. A hero is also a person who has performed a heroism act. An admiral of the British navy who rescue the entire nation at one or two points in his career is a hero. But he continued after her normal lives and nobody now his action. So, a hero is not always strong and tough and can be unknown (war, fireman rescue workers, charity works etc.).
, a anti-hero is a protagonist who lacks the attitude that make a heroic figure. In class, we talk about a example of anti-heor : Ben Johnson. To illustrate this ex-runner who won the championship in Seoul, we read a poem : ‘’So far, so good’’ which was written in free verse by Mick Gouvar and who is based on the story of Ben Johnson. This poem is about a teenager who pays a visit to an ex champion. The ex-runner is in hopistal because he used to take drugs on high quantities to win the Olympic games. The main character in this document is described as an anti-hero because of his behavior when he was an athlete but also because of his attitude during the teenager’s visit. Like Ben Johnson, the character cheated to get a gold medal and he become a anti-hero after the world discover that he used drogs. He is not a example for young generation : he didn’t ‘’run just for fun’’, winnig was his only goal. This speech is the opposite of what a role medal must keep especially in front of his idol. He has disappointed many people and feel no remords. The link between the notion and this document is that ththat the main character is the total opposite of what a hero because of his behavior and his speech.

Since the down of time, society always need Myths and Heroes, because, everybody want to trust in miracles, that everything can happens… These persons, real or fictional, give faith to a oppressed population which
