English test /help
Message from jandark posted on 01-01-2014 at 14:50:29 (D | E | F)
Hello ,

how can I understand this sentence :
"You will text me as soon as you have finished the work ."?
What does the word "text" express here ?
Thank you for your answers.

Hello!

You will text me as soon as you have finished the work --> You will send me a message on my mobile as soon as you have finished the work

See you and Happy New Year!

Hello,

The verb 'to text' is already entering French as 'texter' and 'texting' to join 'parking', 'camping' etc

Hello carr!

Never heard of "texter" and "texting" in French!
"Texting" may exist, even though I've never heard of it but "texter" sounds like a made-up word...
See you!
I must text some friends of mine, really!

Looked it up on wikipedia: Link

Seems to be used in Quebec
Awful word! To be banned or hanged!

Hello ,
English people say : thank you for your texto or I'll send you a texto ...true that a message still exists and is proper language . A texto happens to be a neologism ; it is tolerated for the moment , not attested yet .
Bye .
