Message from shaaraf posted on 25-03-2013 at 18:59:52 (D | E | F)
Hello,

Could you help me please?
"I’ve never been to Spain."
OR
"I’ve never gone to Spain."
Which one is correct and why?
Please reply...thank you.

Hello,

One pupil is absent: the class tells you:
He has gone to the doctor's.

You come back to school with short hair: you say:
I have been to the hairdresser's. (But you are present in class.)

I have never been to Spain: You regret it now in front of your friend. It is an experience you have never had.

I have never travelled/gone/driven/to Spain. It is an action you have never done. You have never left your country for Spain.

Hello;
Both of your sentences are correct but they do not have the same meaning:
You use gone when you mean that the person has travelled to a place and not returned yet.
But when you mean that the person has travelled to the place and is back, you use been:
He's gone to London
He's been to London

good luck
