Comparison/superlative
Message from angrepa posted on 11-03-2013 at 22:24:07 (D | E | F)
Hello,

Could you help me please?

In exercise about comparisons and/or superlatives - test 97999.
I wrote: ..the crowdest city...- The correction is: ..the most crowdest..
Why can´t it be "the crowdest"?
Thank you for any answer

Hello,

If you read properly the sentences, you can see everything is all right
What is *(crowded) city in England?
the most crowded
Regards.

Hello.
It is neither the most crowdest, nor the crowdest.
The noun is crowd. It can be crowded, more crowded, or the most crowded. You can't remove the -ed, or add est as a second suffix.
Sherry

Gerondif is correct. Crowd is a noun and a verb, in order to have a past participle!

Hello,
crowd is a noun and a verb. "crowded", or "overcrowded" are past participles used as adjectives.crowded has two syllables, so it is considered as a long adjective.

What is the most crowded city in England ? is correct.

crowd is a noun, crowdest doesn't exist.

What is the largest city in England ?
What is the most populated city in England ?
