Meaning/Bring up short
Message from tatu posted on 09-07-2012 at 12:40:53 (D | E | F)
Hi,

I would like to ask you about the meaning in this sentence that I have read in an interesting book:
" It was my fifteen- year old son who brought us up short."
I don't know exactly what it means. Please tell me.
Thank you in advance.

Hello.
It's in the dictionary. If you know that brought is the past tense form of the verb bring, you will find it quickly. Sherry

Hello!
Bring up (brought up-in the past) is the phrasal verb. It has many meanings. With the word "short", it has the meaning of the "make someone stop doing something suddenly".
