Preposition
Message from abdel01 posted on 22-10-2009 at 14:54:10

Hello there
I have some trouble to use the preposition " to " in these exemples.
we say: I talk you, or I talk to you
I give you, or I give to you
Listen me, Or Listen to me
tell me, or tell to me
If these sentences are correct, please tell me what is the difference.
Thank you in advance

hello,

In fact here are the answers:

-I talk TO you but you tell somebody about something

- I give you this or I give this to you ( depends on where you put the emphasis)

-Listen to me ( voluntary act)=> no exception => to hear someone ( unvoluntary)

- Tell him , tell me ( no exception) => but you say something to somebody

Here are the main uses of the verbs!

Regards

Sébastien
