Bonjour

I have moved the furniture a bit (a little fera plus anglais) (and)so I haven't had time to wash up the dishes.

Le plus simple serait de dire in spite of his great age), he could seem* (pourquoi ajouter seem ? De plus, là, c'est le moment ou jamais d'utiliser le sens de base de he was able to cross) ( he managed to cross pourrait aussi convenir) to cross the river, which is astonishing since he didn't know yet how to swim* (là, c'est le moment ou jamais d'utiliser can au sens de savoir faire, he couldn't swim.

The mayor was blamed for misusing taxpayer's money (plutôt the taxpayers'money. He was even asked how his car had been purchased. (plutôt how his car was paid for.

When you are a grown-up, you will probably have rights (probably me parait trop élevé en pourcentage de chances, plutôt you may have rights (50%) you might have right (25%)), but you're above all going to be having to be (super long et super lourd, but most of all, you'll have to be an example... je vois rarement have to au sens d'être obligé de en ing) an example for younger people!

You weren't expected (you didn't need to) to do all of these assignments for today; never mind, it's a good training.

6) Cette maison est-elle encore habitée ?
Is this house still inhabited?

He had been told they would clean the house as soon as they had inherited aunt Berthe's furniture.

I'm sure he's not yet back. His car isn't parked opposite his house.

The NASA sends space probes up towards miscellaneous planets of the solar system.

Darkness is descending on the silent city even though James is reeling on his way to the university.

I like American movies whereas my wife hates them.

Darkness is swooping down on the city as (while) James is reeling his way to university /walking drunkenly (unsteadily) to the university

He went out although / eventhough he was ill.

Hello!

1) "have been moving" (it's the time spent doing it, not the fact that it is done, that makes you too busy to wash (up) the dishes)
2) I would say "Despite his advanced age".
"Could seem" doesn't work (only "couldn't seem").
As gerondif notes, "was able" is usually used to translate "a pu".
I prefer "didn't yet know".
3) taxpayers' or taxpayer (used as an adjective)
"purchased" is OK, since you can't purchase a car without paying for it. (Or maybe use a structure with "afford".)
4) I am OK with "to be having"; it is the expectative future V-ing (a bit unusual with "going to", but here it expresses the idea of having to prepare)
5) Instead of "never mind" I would say "no big deal" (or "no biggie" if you allow slang).
...
7) Aunt (capitalized as a title)
8) I prefer "not back yet" (but can't explain how this is consistent with my preference for "didn't yet know" above; maybe "not yet" together represents a surprise; after all, almost everybody knows how to swim)
9) I prefer "various" to "miscellaneous".
10) "Reel" means recoil (The crowd reeled in horror; the city is reeling from the devastation caused by the hurricane.)
There's a good verb for "walk drunkenly", but I can't think of it right now. (Stumble? Meander?)

See you.

Wordreference gives three translations for "tituber": stumble, stagger, reel (in that order). I think I was thinking of "stagger".

Thanks both for helping me I have no computer at my disposal for now since its charger blew up into flames, so I'm going to post my new attempts within the next few days

Oftentimes, I try departing from usual constructions when I translate, which is the reason I don't always use the most obvious words or structures

Until next time!

Here I am with my new propositions, the new charger has been delivered ahead of schedule Thanks for the given help

I have been moving the furniture a bit/little, then I haven't had time to wash up the dishes.

In spite of/ despite his great/advanced age, he did manage/ was able to cross the river, which is astonishing since he still couldn't swim at 70!

The mayor was blamed for misusing the taxpayers' money. He was even asked how his car had been purchased/ paid for.

When you are a grown-up, you may have some rights, but you're above all going to be having/ you will above all have to be an example for younger people!

You weren't expected to/ you didn't need to/you needn't do all of these assignments for today; no big deal, it's a good training.
"No big deal" is the idiom I was thinking of (thanks to Katty Perry's song "This is how we do" ) but couldn't seem to draw it out of my brain, thanks

6) Cette maison est-elle encore habitée ?
Is this house still inhabited?

He had been told they would clean the house as soon as they had inherited Aunt Berthe's furniture. Why do you use the past perfect with "inherited"?

I'm sure he's not back yet. His car isn't parked opposite his house.

NASA sends space probes up towards various planets of the solar system.
Is the following rule (which stems from my deduction) proper? "The" has to be used before abbreviations (such as "US," "BBC," "FBI" ...)
but not before acronyms ("Nasa," "Fifa," "Aids" ....)

Darkness is swooping down on the silent city as/while James is reeling/staggering on his way to the university.
Gerondif, why did you write "is reeling his way" and not "is reeling on his way to the university"?

When you are a grown-up, you may have some rights, but you're above all going to be having/ you will above all have to be an example for younger people! (je continue à coincer sur be having) => but it is proper English, isn't it?
This continuous form (to be going [gonna] be + ing) really hinders me from progressing since I can't seem to find out the situations in which it has to (or can) be applied. Do you know the answer?

Does this only apply with the structure "-ing + on one's way ..."?
Because I don't think we can say things like "I was my way out the house when I saw a kitten hidden under the sofa"

Thanks

Bonjour
Sauf chez MacDo : I'm loving it !

Prenez think, par exemple :
Hush ! I'm thinking ! Shut ! je réfléchis ! Verbe d'action.

I think he is guilty : Je crois qu'il est coupable, verbe d'état, d'opinion, vous ne pourriez jamais dire : I am thinking he is guilty.

On ne dira pas: Je suis en train de devoir faire attention à mon poids : I am having to watch my weight. Même si on insiste sur le caractère présent, cela donnnera : I really have to watch my weight these days !

while James is reeling // on his way to university. on his way est séparé du verbe, le verbe n'accepte pas de COD.
while James is reeling his way to university. Le verbe accepte un COD, his way, qui est donc rattaché au verbe.

Does this only apply with the structure "-ing + on one's way ..."?
He fought his way out. I'll talk myself out of this situation. He drank himself to oblivion.

"I was my way out the house when I saw a kitten hidden under the sofa" impossible, was n'est pas un verbe de déplacement. Out the house est incomplet.
"I was shuffling my way out of the house when I saw a kitten hidden under the sofa" Je sortais de la maison en traînant la savate lorsque je vis un chaton caché sous le canapé.

Out of et out adverbial se comportent différemment.
I put the flower-pot out of the house.
Put out that bloody cigarette !

Hello.

"Alors" in the sense of "donc" is not translated by "then".

I'd never really thought about it before, but I think you're right about the abbreviation/acronym rule. Acronyms are more like names, which usually don't include "the" (The UN, but UNICEF).

I've known quite a few Katy Perry songs, but not "This Is How We Do" ... until now

See you.

Hello, thanks both for your crystal-clear explanations, I feel like my English skills are ramping up as days go by on this site thanks to you I should also work on my German

On ne dira pas: Je suis en train de devoir faire attention à mon poids : I am having to watch my weight. Même si on insiste sur le caractère présent, cela donnnera : I really have to watch my weight these days !
I know that stative verbs are generally not used in the gerund. Yet, I often hear "I'm gonna be having ..." from English speakers in the videos or movies I watch (e.g. "we're gonna be having fun" or "I'm going to be having my very first appointment with the ophthalmologist tomorrow")
Travis also wrote "4) I am OK with "to be having"; it is the expectative future V-ing" up above Maybe it's more of an informal way of saying it

I'd never really thought about it before, but I think you're right about the abbreviation/acronym rule. Acronyms are more like names, which usually don't include "the" (The UN, but UNICEF).
If you had to voice "Nasa" like an abbreviation (i.e. "N.A.S.A" ), would you say "the N.A.S.A"?

See you

bonjour
I am having lunch.
We gonna be having a good time ne me branche pas trop mais doit bien exister.
Mais to have to au sens de être obligé de par une force extérieure, je le vois moins bien en ing.

Hello, yes I would say "The N.A.S.A." /en-ay-es-ay/ if I had to do it that way
See you.
