Bonjour,

Pouvez-vous me dire si l'expression " get the works" peut être traduite par "disparaitre"?
Je l'ai trouvée dans un livre de Welsh et il s'agit d'une chanson "Istanbul, not Constantinople" par le groupe "The four lads".

Voici le contexte:
"So take me back to Constantinople
No, you can't go back to Constantinople
Been a long time gone, Constantinople
Why did Constantinople get the works?
That's nobody's business but the Turks"

Traduction dans le livre :"Why did Constantinople get the works" : "Pourquoi Constantinople a disparu?"

Hello, just a few comments:

- The version of the song that I know was sung by the group They Might Be Giants.
- "...but the Turks'" should have an apostrophe on the end. It is the Turks' business (and nobody's but theirs) why Constantinople got the works.
- If one of the comments given in the forum is to be believed, the -ple of Constantinople and the -bul of Istanbul are in fact cognates!
